The Texas Peripheral Nerve Institute is made up of a group of physicians and surgeons who share an interest in peripheral nerve injuries. If you or your family member suffers from peripheral neuropathy we hope this website can serve as a focal point for new information and research on the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral neuropathy. The physician members have been chosen for their dedication to treating patients with peripheral neuropathy. The surgeon members have received specialized training in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of peripheral neuropathy through the Dellon Institutes for Peripheral Nerve Surgery. These physicians have access to the latest diagnostic and therapeutic advances for the treatment and management of peripheral neuropathy.
The most common form of peripheral neuropathy is diabetic peripheral neuropathy which afflicts millions of Americans, contributing to the largest number of non-traumatic amputations in the United States.
Other causes of peripheral neuropathy are related to alcoholism, various chemotherapeutic agents, certain drugs, Hansen’s disease, as well as, a large group known as idiopathic neuropathy (unknown cause). There are several scientific studies available that suggest an underlying theme with many of these varying types of peripheral neuropathy. The nerve shape in many of these peripheral neuropathies may be causing a compression or squeezing of the nerve in tight tunnels that the nerves must pass through. Several of our members are currently working on research to help illustrate the theory of an overlying compression neuropathy that may link several of these varied causes.
This is not a “brick and mortar” institute with a central location. Each one of the member specialists has his or her own private practice and their practice information can be found on their biography page There are links set up to allow you to navigate directly to their practice website in order to schedule an appointment for consultation.
